Privacy Policy
Tandem ("Tandem", "we", "us") is a group video-journaling app. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. Questions: hello@tandemvlog.com.
To use Tandem you create an account (email + password, or Sign in with Apple) and pick a display name and username. Your clips are private to the people in your vlog. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps. You can delete your account at any time from Settings.
Who we are
Tandem is operated by Dadao Chi. Contact: hello@tandemvlog.com.
What we collect
- Account. To sign up you provide either an email address and a password, or you use Sign in with Apple (in which case Apple shares an email address with us — this may be a private relay address you can turn off in your Apple settings). We never see or store your password itself — it is handled and hashed by our authentication provider.
- Profile. A display name and a username (@handle) that you choose during onboarding, and (optionally) a profile photo.
- Content you create. The short (~2-second) video clips you record (with sound, if you allow microphone access), the vlogs they belong to, any captions you add, and emoji reactions.
- Approximate country. We infer a coarse country (for example, "US") from your device's time zone so a clip can show where it was taken. This uses no location permission and no GPS — only the time-zone setting already on your device.
- Time zone offset. Your device's UTC offset, so each clip can display the local time it was captured.
- Notification data. If you enable notifications, a device push token and your notification preferences, used only to send the reminders you turn on.
- Your connections. Your friends, friend requests you send or receive, anyone you block, and which vlogs you've created or joined.
- Limited diagnostics. Crash and error reports to keep the app stable, configured to minimize personal data.
We do not collect precise location or GPS, your contacts, advertising identifiers, or browsing activity, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
How we use it
Only to run the app: to create and secure your account, store and show your clips to the members of your vlogs, connect you with friends, send the capture reminders you enable, label clips with their local time and coarse country, and fix crashes. We do not use your content for advertising and we do not sell your data.
Who can see your content
Your clips are private to the members of the vlog they belong to — enforced on our servers, not just in the app. Finished vlog videos are created on your device and shared only when you choose to share them. Profile photos are served from a public link so the app can show them to your friends. We never make your clips public.
Sign in with Apple
If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple gives us an identifier and an email address (which may be a private relay address). We use these only to create and access your account. Apple's handling of your data is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.
Service providers (subprocessors)
We use a small number of vendors to run the app. They process data only to provide their service:
- Supabase — database, file storage (clips private, profile photos via public link), and authentication.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, and delivery through the App Store.
- Expo — delivering push notifications and app updates.
- Amazon Web Services — storage of some previously rendered vlog videos (a legacy system we are retiring).
- Sentry — crash and error reporting, configured to minimize personal data.
How long we keep it
We keep your content and account data until you delete it. When you delete your account (Settings → Delete account), we begin deleting your profile, your connections, your login, and any of your vlogs that are still live. Deletion from our live systems happens right away; limited copies may remain temporarily in routine encrypted backups until those expire, unless we must retain something for security, fraud prevention, or legal obligations. Crash and error reports age out of our diagnostics service over time. Clips you shared into a group vlog stay with that group — like a message you sent to a group chat — shown without your name or photo. A finished vlog is kept until the last member removes it from their memories, then it and its clips are permanently deleted.
Your choices
- Block anyone from your circle.
- Report content or a person from within the app.
- Delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. Content you shared into group vlogs remains with the group.
Children
Tandem is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
We'll update this policy as the app evolves and revise the date above. Material changes will be surfaced in the app.
